About Vascular surgery

Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty in which disorders of the vascular system and lymphatic circulation are managed by procedures and surgical reconstruction. Vascular disease is a group of diseases of arteries and veins where there is a disruption in the blood flow that can lead to disability.Vascular involves usage of invasive catheter procedures to treat the diseases of the vascular system, arteries, and veins. Intracranial and coronary arteries are not included in vascular surgery.

Due to the severity of some vascular conditions, it needs a multi-disciplinary approach to provide the patient with comprehensive care. This includes the combined efforts of surgeons, technologists. Patients will critical care to return to a good life.

It is used to treat peripheral vascular diseases, especially in diabetics, like acute or chronic limb ischaemia. It may also be needed to repair aortic aneurysm, a bulge in the wall of the artery, which if left untreated, can burst and lead to bleeding and severe complications.

If case of a kidney failure, you can have vascular surgery for vascular access and maintenance. Vascular surgery can also be used to treat venous diseases including abnormal connections between arteries and veins, swollen and twisted veins, deep vein thrombosis, and venous leg ulcers.
